Book 1 in the Arts & Hearts series

Does Asa have a life sentence doing time in the friendzone?

Asa has been in love with Theo since their art school days in London, but Theo has only ever had eyes for their straight friend Oliver. Two years ago, unable to take the pain of unrequited love any longer, Asa came home to Glasgow. He hasn’t seen Theo since, nor has he stopped loving him.

When Oliver marries Charlotte, Asa can’t come up with any reasonable excuse not to attend the wedding, so he returns to London. He isn’t exactly shocked when Theo doesn’t show up, but when he learns that the reason for Theo’s no-show is a car accident that has landed him in hospital, Asa immediately rushes to be with him.

Unable to leave Theo to fend for himself while he recovers, Asa takes his friend back to Glasgow with him.

There, secrets are revealed, and Asa learns more about Theo than he ever imagined.

About Cassidy Ryan

A devourer of books since the age of three, Cassidy Ryan has wanted to be a writer since she discovered that actual people created these wonderful worlds and characters.

She discovered her mum's stash of romance novels when she was twelve, and the die was cast.

These days she lives in the West End of Glasgow, and when she isn't meeting the demands of her cat Angel—the undisputed Mistress of all She Surveys—or indulging in her life-long quest to find the perfect handbag, she likes nothing better than to sit down at the laptop and manoeuvre gorgeous men and women into bed, in whatever combination the muse sees fit to gift upon her imagination.

Unrequited love is ALWAYS a good plot device. Cassidy Ryan does an excellent job of carrying this theme through the story. Typically, I sympathize with the character who's love isn't returned and want to slap the other character who is oblivious to what's right in front of them. This didn't happen in "The Art of Loving" because the characters were written with care. There were also elements of tension that left you wondering if one of the MC's is going to end up with one of the artists or maybe the bartender. These situations were resolved quickly which I always appreciate.

I know Cassidy's style of writing. I know the rules of romance writing she adheres too. For this, I love her stories and always feel at the end it was time well spent.

Well done Cassidy! <3

Loving his best friend Theo became too much for Asa while they were in college. Especially as Theo seemed to be pining for their straight friend Oliver. Asa could barely survive the feelings, so he left. Left everything he wanted and fled for home heartbroken.

Second chances and hope.

Several years later, Asa was on edge. Oliver was marrying his fiancee and Asa wondered how he would face the man he never stopped loving again. One accident sent Asa running to be at Theo's bedside and assuming responsibility for his care during recovery.

This is my confession.

Before Asa could breathe again, old feelings were rushing in and Theo was making confessions that had Asa thinking he had a chance after all.

This novella was all about getting second chances and dreams come true. Asa knew Theo was it for him and he was willing to get his heart broken all over again.

I really enjoyed this book. If I had to describe it I would say that it is a book about unrequited love that one of the main characters has for his best friend but the best friend is in love with their other best who is getting married. This marriage sets in motion a chain of events that sets the course of the two main characters lives.

I actually felt bad for both Asa and for Theo both. They both loved someone who did not return those feelings and that made it hard to be a round that person because of it.

Asa is my opinion has done what he has needed to do to try and get over his feelings for Theo. He went so far as to move back to his hometown and had not seen him for two years in hopes those feelings would go away. But they didn't and when Theo needed Asa he was there for him no questions asked even though at times he felt as if part of him was dying from not being able to be with the man he was in love with.

Theo in my opinion was never really in love with Oliver. It was a good excuse to himself to not get close to anyone by making himself believe he was in love with someone who would never return those feelings. I also think that Theo realized too late that Asa was the one he was truly in love with after Asa moved back to his hometown and it was too late to do anything about it.

Sometimes fate has a way setting right things that are wrong and I think that this is a book that describes just that. I really enjoyed this read and look forward to reading more books by Cassidy Ryan in the near future.

Asa has been in love with Theo since their first year of college. But Theo only has eyes for Oliver, who is completely straight and unaware of Theo’s feelings. Years later at Oliver’s wedding, Asa has returned back to London for the nuptials, unsurprised to find his feelings for Theo remain as strong as ever. But when Theo has an accident, could this be the chance Asa has longed for?

This is a lovely short story about two really good friends who finally allow their relationship to bloom into more. I personally enjoyed the pacing of the story – that lovely slow, sweet fall from friends into lovers. Readers looking for a harder-core erotica might find the pace too slow though. There is no sex or spice until well past the half-way mark and in such a short length story readers who are more interested in the spice and erotic scenes rather than the journey itself might find this lacking in the heat department.

For me, I often love the journey and am far more interested in the characters and the ride – so this story really hit a lot of good points for my enjoyment. I loved getting to know Asa – and to a lesser extent Theo. The entire story is told from Asa’s point of view, so at times I really did wish for a quick glance in Theo’s head. Needing to read this thoughts and feelings from cues in his actions and through Asa’s eyes were sometimes difficult and I would have dearly loved at least a chapter or two from Theo’s perspective. That said, I loved watching Theo and Asa deepen their friendship, open their trust to each other and finally, finally at the end of the story come together and admit their feelings were so much more than friendship.

Readers looking for a slow, realistic and very sweet progression of a story, one focused on the characters and their journey together should really love this M/M story. I really enjoyed it and would happily look for more.
